National Park and Recreation Month!

July is National Park and Recreation Month!

The month of July celebrates national, state, and local parks along with the many recreation opportunities they provide.  Recreation is an essential human activity needed to restore and maintain healthy bodies, minds and spirits - parks are the public places provided to people of all means for recreation.

Public parks form the foundation for our high quality of life.  They protect and conserve green spaces for the benefit and use of all citizens; they enhance property values; and they make our communities attractive, active places to live.

Parks and recreation programs provide families with healthy, positive ways to connect and build that sense of home and well-being we know as “community.”  They provide children with a safe refuge for play, and they provide adults a peaceful place to escape stress.

So join me in celebrating National Park and Recreation Month and please take a moment to thank the many employees and volunteers that help to keep our parks and programs safe and enjoyable for all citizens.
