County Clean-up Day!

The Washtenaw County Solid Waste Program is holding a regional environmental clean-up day at the Saline DPW on Saturday, May 17 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. It will be a drop off that will accept recyclable materials, appliances, household hazard waste, furniture, tires, and electronic equipment. There is a suggested donation of $10 and additional donations asked for more than one appliance or more than four tires. This collection program is only for Washtenaw County residents. Household garbage will not be accepted. Attached is the brochure for your information.

Because Saline is hosting the collection site, we will need to provide volunteers to work the event. The volunteers will be providing information to participants, surveying participants, and may assist in unloading vehicles if possible. The county will provide safety vests, snacks, and lunch for the volunteers. We are looking for 12-15 volunteers to work the collection. The volunteers may work two shifts: 8:30 am till noon and or noon till 4:30 pm. Please arrive for your shift ½ hour early. Lunch will be served around 11:30.

The collection will also be staffed by Recycle Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County Solid Waste Staff and by the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s department community workforce program. The community workforce program will also provide labor to unload vehicles. The household hazardous waste company will be providing their own labor to pack the household hazardous materials. Volunteers may be requested to remove boxes from the cars of participants.

If you would like to volunteer please contact Priscilla Heldt, DPW Office Manager, at 429-5624.
