2008 Hardship Exemption Information

Section 211.7u(1) of the Michigan General Property Tax Act defines the poverty or Hardship Exemption as a method to provide relief for those who, in the judgment of the Board of Review are unable to fully contribute to the annual property tax burden of their principal residence due to their financial status.

The City of Saline Assessing Office, with the approval of the City Council, has adopted official Hardship Exemption Guidelines for those homeowners who wish to apply for property tax relief under the above referenced statute. Complete guidelines and application forms are available at the City Assessor’s Office. In order to qualify for a Hardship Exemption a homeowner must have a Principal Residence Exemption and will be required to give personal information for all household members concerning household assets, monthly income and expenses and household debt. The City of Saline Assessing Office will, to the best of their ability, respect the confidential nature of this information by not making it available to the public. All applications for Hardship consideration must be received by the City Assessor’s Office by the close of the Board of Review.

For questions or application information, please contact the City of Saline Assessing Office at (734) 429-4907, ext 208 or ext 218. Guidelines, instructions and the application are available by clicking the following links:
